Where the Crosskeys stands used to be a Hospitium, a 'guesthouse' for pilgrims and wayfarers travelling to Old Malton Priory (Old Malton is situated just north of Malton). It appears this building was part of the Gilbertine Priory. The Gilbertines are the only native British Monastic Order and were established in 1131 by St Gilbert of Sempringham in Lincoln.
Of course the site is now occupied by the Crosskeys (originally known as the Cross Keys Inn), it was built in the early 18th century. The cellars contain the original vaulted crypt of the Hospitium!
The place retains its traditional pub charm while blending with a subtle Thai flavour, making for a unique dining experience. We look forward to seeing you soon!
